Hawa Mahal, Palace of Winds

The palace of winds (Hawa Mahal) in Jaipur counts 953 windows and balconies.

Built in 1799, the palace was intended to accomodate women from the royal harem. Because of the architecture they were able to observe everyday life without being seen.

Nüshu, Women’s Scripts

In Hunan province in southern China, women from the Yao people used for a long time a secret ancestral writing.

Writing in nüshu was for them a way to prevent men to understand their communications.
